Red Bean Spice 16oz
A New Orleans Staple Seasoning Blend
Chef Diva perfected this LOW SODIUM plant-based spice blend using garlic, onion, and bell pepper, along with other spices, without using the flavor of meat! Chef Diva created this flavor after making traditional New Orleans style “Red Beans” as a topping for her signature Red Bean Chili Dawg for her customers who visit the Diva Dawg Food Truck. When plant-based customers would request it as a topping, she had to make sure it tasted as good as Red Beans cooked with actual meat. This flavor can be used to season a variety of dishes, such as BBQ shrimp, bean soups, dips, and veggies. It can also be used in Instant Pots for stews.
Red Beans & Rice is enjoyed in New Orleans as a community staple on Mondays each week. In the past, Mondays were often designated as “laundry day” in the Big Easy. With laundry being a labor-intensive task, cooking an elaborate meal was impractical. Instead, a simple yet filling dish such as red beans and rice became the go-to choice for Monday dinners. The slow-cooked beans could be left on the stove to simmer while the laundry was tended to, requiring minimal attention. Today, the tradition of having red beans and rice on Mondays in New Orleans is ingrained in the culinary culture.
